R E F U N D S

T E X T B O O K S
Fall & Spring semester textbooks are returnable for one week from the first day of the semester, with a sales receipt and in the same condition as sold.  The cover and pages of new textbooks must be free from any marks or other signs of wear and any shrink wrap still intact.

Proof of drop, a valid ID and your sales receipt are required for all textbook returns during the second week of Fall or Spring classes.  The textbooks returned must match the required or optional books for the dropped class and must be in the same condition as sold, with no marks or signs of wear on the cover or pages of new textbooks.  Shrink wrap must still be intact.

Short Courses and Summer Session books are returnable for three days from the beginning of class, with a sales receipt and in the same condition as sold.  As with full semester course refunds the cover and pages of new textbooks must be free from any marks or other signs of wear and any shrink wrap still intact.

Defective books (missing pages, pages out of order, blurred print, no page numbers, etc.) should be returned to the bookstore, with the sales receipt, as soon as the defect is discovered within the same semester purchased.

General merchandise (non-textbooks) may be returned for refund or exchange within two business days of purchase.  The merchandise must be returned in new condition or else no refund or exchange will be allowed.  All product packaging, information, and labels must accompany the merchandise.  The dated sales receipt must be presented at the time of return or exchange along with your identification.

There are no refunds or exchanges on the following types of items: food, computer disks, calculators, batteries, musical recorders, course catalogs, computer software and computers.

A two dollar restocking fee may be assessed on items which require special handling, such as shrink-wrapping or re-labeling.

The management reserves the right to make exceptions on the above refund and exchange policies.  If you have a question about any part of the refund policy, please ask before you make your purchase.

S O F T W A R E
Software is sold at special educational prices that require proof of enrollment or staff ID.  If you order software and choose express delivery you are responsible for shipping charges.  You will be required to show proof of enrollment when you pick up your merchandise.  If you choose to have software mailed to you, you must fax or mail proof of enrollment before we mail your shipment.

How long is the rental period and what are the terms?

Books are rented for ONE TERM’s [semester] use. If you are in a multiple term course and want to rent that title, you would need to rent the book each term. Rental books are due the last day of Final Exams for the semester in which they were rented. Books must be returned complete and in salable condition-- the spine of the book is intact; there is no damage to the book other than routine highlighting; all components [CDs etc.] must be present. Your student account will be charged the full replacement value [the used price of the book] for titles not returned by the due date. This replacement cost will be in addition to the rental fee paid when the book was rented and is non-refundable. We cannot accept late returns as our agreement with our textbook wholesale partners require us to return the books immediately at the end of the term. Normal tax rates will apply to rental transactions.

How do I know which books are available for rental?

Books available for rent will have a rental price on the course shelf tag on the textbook sales floor. If only new and used prices are shown, the book is not available for rent.

What do I need to rent my textbooks?

You must be a Cuesta College student and present your Student ID card and a credit/debit card at the time of checkout at the cash register.

Are rental textbooks eligible for refunds?

Rental textbooks are eligible for refunds under the same terms and conditions as books that are purchased. Textbooks may be returned within the first week of instruction for the semester in which they are purchased. A full refund will be issued if returning books for a dropped course, a course that was cancelled, or the instructor changes the required books. All other textbook returns are subject to a 10% restocking fee. All textbook returns require a receipt; duplicate receipts will not be issued. For dropped courses, the books must be returned within the first two weeks of the semester with verification of dropped course in order to receive a full refund. 

Where do I return my rental books?

Rental books can be returned to the Cuesta Bookstore, either SLO Campus or NCC Campus, during Finals Week.

What if I want to purchase my rental book?

This decision would need to be made during the textbook refund period. You would need to bring your rental book in for a refund and make a separate purchase. After the textbook refund period has passed, you cannot purchase your rented book.
